For almost two decades, COUNTER has set the standards for vendor reporting of online usage of journals, databases, books, and other publications and formats.
This is achieved through the development of the Code of Practice, and the Project Director plays a key role in the development and implementation of this. In recent years, COUNTER has focussed on supporting its members and users through the development of report validation tools, tools for consortia, a streamlined audit process, and more support for Open Access requirements. It has also produced a range of training and educational materials. For more information see www.projectCounter.org.
The Project Director is responsible for the strategic and operational management of the organization and is a key member of and works closely with the COUNTER Executive Committee. The Project Director reports to the COUNTER Board of Directors and takes part in board meetings.
The scope of the position includes the management of the development and implementation of the COUNTER Code of Practice; leading strategic planning to ensure that COUNTER meets the needs of its members and the wider community; financial management; marketing and communication; general support and understanding of the data and information management technologies and systems that support the Code of Practice; liaising with vendors, librarians, library consortia, publishers, standards organizations and other industry bodies; supervising staff; administration; and reporting to the Board of Directors and to the Executive Committee.
The position is currently based in the UK, but is not an office-based role, so can, within reason, be based in any country so long as time-zones allow for easy communication with the majority of our members and volunteers who are based in US, UK and Europe.
